What Middle Schoolers Receive in GAP’s Homeschool Art Curriculum
GAP’s homeschool art lessons study and recreate the work of 6 master artists, dating back to the 1400s. The middle school curriculum aligns with traditional history studies: 7th graders focus on artists connected to world history, while 8th graders explore artists from U.S. history.
Along the way, students gain more than technical skills. They also learn art history, develop skills in art critique and appreciation, and build essential art vocabulary.
Our packages for middle school students include:
- 75-page Online PDF Workbook covering lesson materials, additional art activities, and tips for teaching an entire year of instruction
- Complete Year of Homeschool Art Education, including step-by-step sketchbook guides, writing prompts, technique practice, engaging video lessons, and real-world connection assignments
- Comprehensive Study of 6 Master Artists with 5-page lessons, artist fact sheets, and additional teaching resources for homeschoolers
- Structured Lesson Sequence for parents and students to follow at home, covering art history, art evaluation, composition guidance, and in-depth technique lessons

- Ongoing Sketchbook Development, featuring personal connection sketches and additional skill-building activities
- Self-Paced Format that supports every learning style

Meet the Teacher Behind the Great Artist Program
Laurie White is a mom, wife, artist, teacher, and founder of the Great Artist Program’s homeschool curriculum. Combining her degree in early childhood and elementary education with over 30 years of experience, dedication, and love, Laurie created GAP with the belief that everyone is an artist—they just may need help and resources to discover their creativity.
We created our homeschool art classes in response to the growing need for better access to art education. Laurie spent over 20 years pouring her passion and soul into creating a homeschool art program that would pave the way for young artists, giving them access to an online education system they need to thrive.
The Great Artist Program’s homeschool curriculum isn’t just about teaching students to color or draw—it’s about showing them that they can create their own beautiful artwork with confidence. We believe that every student has everything they need to succeed within themselves, and our online courses are designed to help that creativity come alive.

GAP teaches middle school students about the history of art and how their own unique expression adds to the future landscape of creativity. From Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” to Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Deer Skull with Pedernal,” students have the opportunity to study legendary masterpieces, understand the techniques and art movements behind them, and recreate their own versions—building skills, confidence, and a personal connection to the artists who shaped history.
In the end, middle school students don’t just learn about great artists. They begin to see themselves as artists in their own right.
